For most of the first half of November, 1914, the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders of 10 Brigade, 4th Division were in trenches at Frelinghien, just to the east of Armentières, where they came under continual pressure from the enemy. The battalion diary recorded that from 12th-16th November the weather was very wet and that the trenches were in a terrible state and that there was some firing every now and then which accounted for the death of Keith Mackenzie on 12th November. |
